MLUA Mentoring Program

Level 1 (Introductory):

                Mentees: Youth officials and 1st year adult officials

o   GET ON THE FIELD!

                Mentors: 2nd year officials and above (rating doesn't matter)

o   Check in with mentees as soon as assigned.

o   Guide them through the Women's Game Certification Requirements:

§  US Lacrosse Membership

§  Contact your local trainer

§  Take US Lacrosse Women's Game Online Course (free to US Lacrosse members)

§  Local Classroom Hours & Rules Interpretation - local trainer will share possible dates and locations of sessions

§  Complete the Annual Rules Test

§  Complete On-Field Rating - Local trainer will share possible dates and locations of games to receive on-field rating.

§  MSHSL requirements (if applicable)

o   Check in to see how their games are going and answer any basic questions they may have. If question is not basic, help them contact a board member.

o   If possible, attend on-field training with them, work a game with them, or go watch one of their games.

Level 2 (Developmental):

                Mentees: 2nd year officials and above

o   Reflect on past season(s)

o   Set goals for upcoming season

o   Check in throughout season; particularly post-game if you have questions.

                Mentors: District or National officials

o   Check in with mentees as soon as assigned.

o   Discuss past season(s)

§  Strengths/weaknesses

o   Knowledge of rules

o   Foul recognition

o   Penalty administration

o   Field positioning

o   On ball/ Off ball tendencies

o   Conditioning

o   Whistle talk/ Stadium signals

o   Etc.

o   Set goals for upcoming season

o   Check in throughout the season to revisit goals and discuss any particularly great or concerning moments that have occurred.

o   If possible, attend on-field training with them, work a game with them, or go watch one of their games.
